Paypal Wallet

It’s Monday, the alarm rang and I was already late hurrying in the shower, brushing teeth, leaving the breakfast unprepared on the kitchen table, running outside heading towards the bus stop. As usually it took me an unspeakably large amount of time to get to the train station where I just wanted to get myself a cup of coffee to enjoy the train ride to school. 7.30am - that guy behind the counter at Starbucks knew exactly what I want as I went there each day before heading off to continue pursuing my educational career. “€4.90” he quethed although he knew that I was aware of the price I pay regularly to quench my hunger for caffeine. Sliding my hands slowly into the pockets of my jeans where I usually hid my cash, nervousness started to emerge as I seemed to be unable to identify any object that appeared to be cold hard cash inside my trousers pocket suddenly revealing the fact that I had forgotten it at home. Luckily there was something to help me out of this awkward and embarrassing situation…

Who of us has not once or twice forgotten his or her cash at home although you actually wanted to buy something? If you are a user of the online payment system Paypal your dreams have been witnessed and answered as the technology-oriented blog Mashable recently reported that Paypal is within the coming 12 months about to introduce a method that lets Paypal users pay in stores, shops and restaurants with their Paypal account balance. The magic system is entitled “Paypal Wallet” and, according to sources, turns out to be an official Paypal-made credit card replacement that is to be handled like a credit card but does allow you to use your account balance. And that feature is not everything Paypal is apparently planning for the future. The eBay company is planning to introduce a geofencing function into its mobile apps that alerts users to discounts or special offers near them based on their geographical position. But despite the assumption this would end terrible just as many other brilliant ideas of other companies, Paypal users would need to add merchants to a white list in order to receive their discounts which means consumers are not being scared off with a huge amount of offers that are not easy to identify.

Based on the story I began to tell you, this Paypal Wallet would be the best solution to my simple problem and maybe the start to a payment revolution.

Facebook Returns

After many months of discussions and complaints about the privacy being at risk on the Facebook platform, the new design including the so-called “ticker”, and users switching to the new competitor of Facebook, Google Plus (Google+), will Mark Zuckerberg make it back to the centre of media geeks’ attention after he announced and rolled out strictly for developers the new Facebook profile design on the fourth annual F8 conference?

On September 22nd, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg held the fourth annual F8 conference, a meeting of media and technology journalists and Facebook application developers, and presented the audience a new kind of profile after bragging as usual about the growth of the userbase up to 800 million people. The new profile named Timeline shall represent the users’ entire life in one endless string, a sort of portfolio if you wish with all the contents of your life. Currently only members of the Facebook developer programme can activate the beta version profile to play around wit the apps they are creating in order to make them work perfectly with the new Timeline. By the end of September all users of Facebook are supposed to have the new profile as it is then the new default profile of Facebook users.

Many of us people reviewing and already testing the beta version of the new Facebook profile have to admit that this is one of the best changes Facebook has ever made as this new profile not just boosts creativity of its users and lets them express and present it in a “customizable” environment on their portfolios but it also looks just awesome if you look at it. Of course, the “ticker” and the new navigation bar at the top are still some sort of bummer as I personally do not get the sense behind seemingly 10 different ways to get back to the Facebook homepage with a single click and the fact that your name and picture in minimized format are being displayed twice on the homepage. Given that you are aware of who you are, that feature of having your name above the left-hand menu on the homepage and in the top right of the anyway pretty empty looking navigation bar is not really a necessity.

In the recent history of Facebook, I personally thought it would just get worse with every single new invention and every single update of the design and small functions starting from the merging of chat and messages which some people complained about but I did not because I find that pretty clever as I often forgot what I was talking about with someone a few days ago via chat and now I just can re-read that, but mainly starting from the activation of the “Questions” feature, a default Facebook application that was letting you post questions and, of course, showed you all the questions in your news feed your friends were answering. Thank God, or Allah or whoever your God is (I am an atheist actually), the mass of questions asked and answered has eased and you can hide them from your news feed.

Besides some new releases and updates on the Facebook design, it is still quite cool and I would not want to miss it … although Tumblr and Vimeo I think are the coolest networks of all time. But can Facebook now strike back against Google+? Many people noted when the new design of the Facebook news feed and lists were rolled out a few days ago that it had quite similar design elements to Google’s social network which has somewhat around 70 million users and compared to Facebook’s 800+ million it can not really keep up. Now that Facebook has revealed the new profile design and people as well as media is going wild on it, at least here in Germany the largest television broadcaster RTL has made it number one story in its evening news at the day of the F8 conference presentation, the focus is back on the blue F and might gain users back of the masses they have lost to Google. It is important as well to not grant Google too much access to your data, as some German media experts are saying, because Google’s already gathering tons of information about you thanks to search queries and advertising click reports. If Google can connect that to your social profile it completely knows who you are and that might be a danger for internet users who are not cautious enough.

With the new profile, the new privacy settings which are now easier to adapt to your requirements and desires, and the new frontend design, Facebook is clearly able to grow even more and get out of reach for Google. But the question is, how long will that boost last?

How to be a good boyfriend

There are a few things that you should mind and think about before considering yourself a good boyfriend as a teen. Here I have listed some of the things to help you being a good boyfriend in this very critical age regarding the raging hormones and the lack of practice.

First of all, never lie to them, not even to impress them. Most relationships fail because the boy gets caught in a lie. When you tell her always the truth that thing will never happen. Secondly, you should be protective but you should keep in in certain boundaries as being overprotective isn’t helpful to the relationship either. Controlling every one of her moves and letting her control you won’t be very positive. Thirdly, you should be careful about this: you should notice those little things that she changed about herself like when she has a new haircut or wears something else than usual. Fourth, keep yourself clean and smell nice but not too aggressive as this will also lead to negative impressions. Fifth, keep the doors open for her as chivalry is not yet a dead attitude. This will also lead to a positive impression about her as this is mainly considered gentlemen-like. Making her feel like you really care about her and what she is talking about is thing number six as this is important for the relationship to work. Seventh, always tell her when she popped into your mind, when you are thinking about her. This will have a lasting good impression. Eighth, be friendly and try to get along with her friends but never ever attempt or in any way act like you’d flirt with them or you’d accept their flirting as this is really going to hurt your girlfriend. Ninth, try to avoid any sort of argument or disagreement with her closest friends as they are often speaking to her about you and the reverse way. Tenth, make her know that she is the only girl for you and be sure she really is!

The next thing sounds pretty easy but it’s harder than you think. Number eleven: don’t cheat on her ever as this is one of the worst things that you could do and number twelve: as many girls are insecure and simple reassurances are often all she needs to feel good again, always make sure she feels this way. Thirdteenth, compliment her and let her make some esential decisions too as then she knows that you are still interested in her. Fourteenth, always treat her well like do not ignore her and respect the fact that she may needs to hang out with her girlfriends for some time. Tell her also that she looks beautiful when you can see that she put a lot of work into her looks. This will make her happy as well as the fact that you should cheer her up when she is down. This includes that you should not make her down which can happen if you suggest that she might be jealous or you are trying to make her jealous.

You should also think about being romanic and bring her some of her most favourite flowers as this will bring a great smile on her face. This smile is gone if you tell her that you think that other girls are hot. Never ever do that! Even if she asks for your honest opinion. Always say something like „She looks nice but you are looking much hotter.“ Something like that! One thing most girls love to do is playing with the dude’s hair – so, always allow her to do so, even if she’s messing your style up. It will make her feel comfortable and deeper connected with you if she does. Also, do neither embarrass nor pressure her or tease her about her outfit or hairstyle – this will have negative effects on your relationship and of course on the situation. If the girl of your dreams is lying on your leg and it has falen asleep, never tell her to go off, simply ask or have her chaning the position. It’s more comfortable and much sweeter.

Twentyninth, always be on her side even if you’d normally be on the other side regarding a specific topic. Sticking up for her will definately be a plus-point. One thing you should clearly keep in mind is that No always means no even when you think she is just kidding – it really still means „no“. She can’t say it clearer than that! The next thing is pretty obvious that this is commonly known for the gentlemen-like behaviour – always pay for dinner and lunch the first few times even if she offers to deal with the bill. A guy who is standing on his own feet is sexy … I know what I’m talking about. Also, tell her when you think about her. This is a great thing to show her that you really consider her the only one – the one! When she is feeling down as I mentioned above, try to cheer up and kiss her on the top of her forehead as this always sends the simple message: „I love you“ and „I care about your feeling“ and not to forget „I want to help you“. A similar message is being transferred if you simply hold her hand – especially when you are laying down somewhere or walking around. Also, do never be afraid of kissing her and showing and telling that you love her in public as this what she might be expecting from you. She is also expecting you always to make the first move! This is obligatory! Just like answering all her phone calls and messages. Leaving a single one unresponded will cause her having weird feelings. In addition, make some extra calls even if there is no special topic. Maybe just wish her sweet dreams or something. Say something like that you just want to hear her voice and think of her. Further, play with her hair and her hand as well as have your hand around her waist. This keeps her connected mentally and physically to you.

Last but not least, never ever forget her birthday. She will never excuse it … just like demanding too much. If you ask her to do too much, she will be gone!

Charles Darwin - Living for Science

Born as the second youngest out of six children in Shrewsbury 1809, Charles Darwin and his entire family as well as the congregation he was born into were belonging to the Unitarian church - an ecclesia which believes in the unity of God, humans and nature. As a small boy he spent much of his leisure time outside in the nature observing and catching insects and plants as he began to gain interest in nature and its hidden secrets. Apart from that he soon got taught how to hunt as he learned from this older brother how to handle a riffle and shoot birds.

While nature was a great attraction to him he totally failed in school and he later wrote in a book that probably the best sort of education he had during his school career have been the secret chemical experiments with his brother which they performed in the greenhouse of the family’s residence in Shrewsbury. That way he got to know the meaning and importance of experimental science. When these hidden chemical experiments became known on the school yard he quickly received the nick name “Gas”.

He was sent to a university in Edinburgh where he started studying medical studies. “A Moor” taught him how to stuff birds he wrote once in a letter to his parents. That black-coloured man taught him also how to dissect animals which he considered later one of his main parts of education that was important for his future career in natural science. Darwin was fascinated by the stories that man was telling him about his homeland and the tropics in general as this black man was a freed slave who was brought to the UK coming from Guyana by a British salesman who cultivated him to be a dissector. As Charles Darwin soon figured out that he was not able to see blood without tainting and vomiting he quit his career in medical studies at the age of 18 having a much broader interest in natural science and traveling than ever before.

That same year, 1827, his father sent Charles Darwin to the University of Cambridge where he was told to study theology. But the only thing he was continuing to study were bugs and insects which he began to focus on apart from botanics and geology before he finally completed his studies in theology after four years. His professor in botanics used to have quite good connections and because some other scientists refused the offer he suggested Charles Darwin to be a comrade for a circumnavigation of the globe starting in 1831 under the supervision of the captain of the ship “Biegel”, 26 year old Robert Fitzroy who was still looking for a scientifically educated gentlemen to assist him on this trip around the world. Although this voyage was originally set to take two years and the expeditions goal was to gauge the coast of Southern America, the trip took over five years and the result was a new point of view on the world and the human kind. According to Charles Darwin himself, this travel with the “Biegel” has been one of the most significant experiences he made over the years. Unfortunately he suffered from sea sickness the entire time being onbord. On the mainland then his expeditions granted him permission to sceneries he never saw before which delivered him material for his theories.

On the Cape Verde Islands he recognized a white line on the steep coast which was about 10 meters above sea level. When he was taking a closer look he realized it was limestone and shells. For him it was something unbelievable how these creatures got there above the sea and he drew the conclusion that something has moved which made him think that Earth was not as rigid as he and his fellow scientists previously believed but that Earth is rather a very dynamic planet.

Then the appearance and disappearance of species - how could it be understood in a more practical way than using the huge bones he found on his expedition to Puna Alta in Argentina. When the ship continued to travel they were stopping on the Galapagos Islands.

Depending on the island the tortoises come from, he realized they had different pattern in their shell although it happened to be the same species but they were isolated from each other. Another discovery he made were the finches living on the islands of Galapagos. They are perfectly adapted to their islands environment and natural ressources. While the finches on one island have thinner beaks to easily peck insects out of the wood and therefore reproduce in higher rates to proceed their attributes to the next generations in order to survive, the finches on one other island of Galapagos have a much thicker beak that they can use perfectly in order to survive in their given environmental conditions. This principle Darwin soon called “Natural Selection”.

1836 he returned to England and just one year later he was manufacturing a sketch of the first “evolutionary tree” or “tree of life” underlining his imagination of evolution. He added the headline “I think” to the paper. But until he finally says or even publishes what he thought 23 years were passing by in which he feared to loose his reputation as a natural scientist in the Anglican public. Instead he was founding a family, his wife gave birth to 10 kids of which 3 died and he started to publish some selected results of his voyage and started proving himself as a natural scientist in order to indirectly prepare the academics and fellow scientists for the release of his studies. Secretly he kept writing on his theory of evolution and just before other scientists were about to unveil his discoveries, we published his theories in 1859.

Painting of Charles Darwin

“The Origin of Species” caused heavy discussions between the clergy and Darwins adherents and many people mocked his presumed affiliation of the human race with apes. When Darwin died in 1882 the scientific point of view had significantly changed and that continues until today.

How Friends See Your Profile

When people complain about essential information being revealed to strangers and virtual friends - now there is a possibility to check for yourself who is able to access what.

(image of page to look at your profile as if you were a stranger or one of your friends, view on this profile)

In many countries across the world there have been discussions about the safety of essential, private information users reveal on social networks like Facebook as some people tend to disclose too many information to “everyone”, as the privacy settings label it, which in fact means everyone and every search engine crawling your profile for some reason can access that data freely without you noticing or even having the right to obstruct the continuous usage of that information once it has been gathered. Now there is a possibility to give your profile a chance to redeem itself as a new function has been put into existence since the previous update of the privacy settings pages on Facebook that allows you to view your profile as if you happen to be a user of your choice or even a random stranger just passing by. Using this feature you can take a look at what information you revealed effectively on your profile are visible for a certain person or the broad public, being not your friends, simply by opening a Facebook page and, if you want to go for the first of the mentioned options, enter the friend’s name followed by an enthusiastic hit of the enter-button on your keyboard.

This function is only available for your own profile and can be either accessed by navigating yourself through the privacy settings of your Facebook account or by simply going to this URL. This page will load your profile with a little bar on top that allows you to enter a friends’ name of your choice whilst the page you are viewing at in the first place is your profile how it is being accessible by everyone across the network and even search engines’ crawlers that collect information provided on your profile - the ideal case would be that they can only fetch your name, profile picture and possibly your gender, everything else than that should better remain strictly for your friends’ eyes. If it is, you can check by entering a friends’ name and hitting Enter. You can even browse through your profile further like going from your wall and info tab to your photos and see how that particular friend is experiencing a ride through your photo galleries.

People being afraid of who might be able to spy on their personal data will be relieved to hear that it is now possible with this feature to check at least what people can see and what they can not which might be motivating people to not complain about the privacy settings but rather about how they set them themselves which might be the even larger issue than just the information people enter and start to share in the first place. Of course this tool can not prevent people from spying on you if you accept everyone by random which is why it is a quite good idea to create a list with all your new “friends” on Facebook that only grants limited to barely any access on your profile information and until they have proven themselves to be good-minded people they remain in that particular list.
